The Bill Lane Center for the American West at Stanford University is dedicated to advancing scholarly and public understanding of the past, present, and future of western North America. The Center supports research, teaching, and reporting about western land and life in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Founded in 1967, OCLC is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world’s information and reducing information costs. More than 72,000 libraries in 171 countries and territories around the world have used OCLC services. OCLC and its worldwide member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain WorldCat, making it the world’s largest and richest database of bibliographic information. One of our recent initiatives has exposed this database to programmers so they can integrate library data into their applications. The Bancroft Library
Already the world’s largest collection of historical materials on California and the West, with hundreds of thousands of rare book and millions of documents, Bancroft’s diverse collections offer a magnificent array of primary sources to study the character and soul, the hopes and aspirations, the memory of our present western heritage. Bancroft must now plan for its continued growth throughout the 21st Century with increased emphasis on sharing this rich content with new and old audiences online, as well as serving researchers and visitors in our new state of the art facility on the Berkeley campus.

Open Context
Open Context is a free, open access publication system for sharing primary field research in archaeology and related fields. It helps scholars and students to easily find, reuse, and mash-up data and media collected by researchers from around the world. With robust archival support from the California Digital Library, the system helps safeguard irreplaceable observations about the archaeological and historical past. The Alexandria Archive Institute, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, maintains Open Context and provides editorial oversight for its content.
Internet Archive
Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit library that was founded in 1996 to provide permanent universal access to all knowledge. To accomplish this, the Archive actively collects, creates and provides access to archives of digital media. This includes texts, audio, movies, web pages and software collections. Internet Archive seeks to provide access to all communities, including researchers, historians, people with disabilities and the general public.
MemoryMiner
MemoryMiner uses photographs to provoke and capture memories for the purpose of telling stories. If you’ve ever noticed the profound emotions people have when viewing and sharing stories about the moments captured in a series of photos, then you understand the motiviation behind the software. While initially targeted at consumers, MemoryMiner has been put to great use at leading cultural/academic institutions such as the Magnes and Duke University.
Wordnik
Wordnik is a project to collect all the words (of English) and everything about them, to give you all the information you need wherever and whenever you have a question about a word. With more than ten million words, Wordnik is the biggest dictionary project ever, but it aims to replace the dictionary with a layer of ambient information anywhere there’s text.
Prelinger Library & Archives
Prelinger Library, a San Francisco-based private research library open to the public, holds a large collection of books, periodicals and print ephemera in many fields, including history of the North American urban and rural landscape, media, technology, infrastructure, and social and political issues. Its browsing-friendly environment encourages serendipity, discovery, appropriation and consumptive use. A companion collection, Prelinger Archives, holds over 2,100 historical films that are downloadable for free, unrestricted reuse.
LookBackMaps
LookBackMaps is a simple, yet robust way of visually organizing, exploring and engaging in history and historical photographs through web and mobile-based maps. Through the online mapping of high-resolution public photo collections and geotagging technology, Lookbackmaps creates collaborative, standardized views into the past. We also utilize our technology to provide affordable mobile apps to institutions, making it easy for you to take historical collections to the streets and attract new audiences.
The Townsend Center for the Humanities
The Townsend Center for the Humanities encourages an interdisciplinary approach to scholarship, fosters innovation in research, and promotes intellectual conversation among individuals from the humanities and related fields at UC Berkeley. The Center offers an array of fellowship and grant programs that support research and scholarship at all levels of the university community, and also funds over 60 interdisciplinary working groups. The Center’s public programs, including the Avenali and Una’s endowed lectures and the Forum on the Humanities and the Public World, serve as a catalyst for the discussion of important issues on campus and in the surrounding community.
Media and Technology Committee
The Media and Technology Committee (M&T) is the American Association of Museum’s link between museums and media technologies. As such, it identifies, examines, and advocates appropriate uses of media technologies in helping museums meet the needs of their diverse publics.

We’re soliciting a limited number of small sponsorships for THATCamp Bay Area, at the $200 (Supporting Sponsor) and $500 (Presenting Sponsor) level. Both levels will have their logos on the official THATCamp Bay Area t-shirt, though Presenting Sponsor logos will be more prominent. Presenting sponsors will also have the ability to display marketing materials or giveaways. All sponsors will be displayed on all web pages of the THATCampBayArea.org website and will be recognized in the opening session, and we’ll also have a space for sponsors to describe their products or projects.
